What are Fractals?

I get asked this question quite a lot since I use fractals as the art for the New York Neurofeedback website, Facebook page and on this blog.

So what are they?

All systems in nature are non-linear dynamic systems (somewhat predictable, somewhat random, responding to stimuli). Fractal geometry represents those systems, and fractals are graphical representations of those equations. Neurofeedback works with the central nervous system - your brain and spinal cord - the most complex system on Earth. That makes fractal images perfect for NYNF.

They are also often beautiful. People find them soothing in a similar way to how we feel when we're in nature. Interesting, isn't it?

To your right, you'll see a slideshow of fractals. If you'd like to learn more, visit the Fractal Images page of NYNF's website.
